This September my wife Cara and I went up to the Kula Forest Reserve on Maui to visit some of the trees that were planted to help restore the damage caused by the 2007 fire.
We were both very happy and excited to visit these trees and to see them doing so well.
The fun part was that we randomly picked a few GPS addresses from trees that had been dedicated as living memorials and went on a scavenger hunt.
As you can see this one is over 6 feet tall and is well on its way to becoming the proud sentinel of the memory that it was chosen to protect.
